| FAIRPLAY TOWAGE takes delivery of a new tug
The Hamburger based Fairplay Towage took delivery of the third newbuilding out of a series of 4 units from Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon. „FAIRPLAY X“ is the 6th tug of this name in Fairplay’s 104 years of history. The first „Fairplay X“ was built for Carl Tiedemann, Hamburg in 1910 and was scrapped in 1950. The second tug with this name was originally built for Wismuller, Ijmuiden in 1918 and was – after many years of service for Fairplay – scrapped 1965. The third „Fairplay X“ was launched on the Fairplay owned shipyard Theodor Buschmann in 1966 only to be sold to France one year later. Already 1967 Fairplay had another seagoing tug “Fairplay X” which was sold to England 20 years later and finally the fleet contained a “Fairplay X” as from 1999 which was bought 2nd hand from England and sold again in 2007 to England. This latest fleet-addition has, however, little in common with her pre-decessors. It belongs to the strongest tugs in Fairplay’s fleet and is built according to the latest standards by the Spanish yard Astilleros Armon in Navia/Spain. With an LOA of 25m and a width of 11,2m “Fairplay X” – as her already delivered sisters “Fairplay I / III”, as well as the “Fairplay XIV” still under construction, will primarily serve in the ports of Hamburg, Rotterdam and Antwerp. Two 8-cylinder ABC-engines (Type ABC 8MDZC 4-stroke) with each 1850KW at 1000 RPM generate the power for two Schottel SRP1515-rudder-propellers, producing a bollard pull of more than 70 tons and a free-running speed of 12kn. Two Scania 6-cylinder-diesel-engines (Type D 9 95M 10-40) with a power output of each 196kw are generating the required on-board electricity. A Brusselles double-drum winch (Type SLH150.20/2-2-2) produces a breakforce of 1800kN. Ships’ assistances will be performed primarily via the bow (Push & Pull). One of the double drums will carry a 90m Dyneema-Line whereas the other will carry conventional towing gear (52mm wires) either for port operation or sea-towages. For towage-jobs over the stern the tow-wire is guided through a tunnel below the accomodation to the aft-deck. The extensive fendering around the entire ship is protecting the hull and especially designed for the „Push & Pull-Mode“ Designed for a 3-men-crew the tugs each count a total of 6 bunks. Navigation- and communication equipment corresponds to the presently available technical standards. The tug is built according to Bureau Veritas with a class-notation: „BV + Hull + Mach Tug unrestricted service + AUT UMS“. Compared to the sister vessels “Fairplay I / III”, this tug’s hull has slightly been modified. With the assistance of the Fairplay-owned Buschmann-shipyard a skeg was developed which will further increase the course-stability when sailing backwards. At the same time when Fairplay took delivery of “Fairplay X”, Astilleros Armon launched the “Fairplay XIV”, the last tug of this series. Her delivery is scheduled for mid/end October 2009. Fairplay Towage operates a fleet of harbour-, offshore- and deepse-tugs, stationed in Hamburg, Rotterdam Antwerp, the German Baltic as well as Poland. Through its subsidiary BBB Schlepp- und Hafendienst in Rostock a fleet of pontoons is operated. With the 50% participation in Multraship in 2008, both companies launched the Joint Venture “Antwerp Towage” in September last year, starting harbour services in the Port of Antwerp. Since 2004 respectively 2008 Fairplay is also active in Poland through its 10% subsidiaries “Project Zegluga”, based in Szczecin and “Port-Hol” located in Swinoujscie. | Tugboat „FAIRPLAY VIII“ new Museumship in Hamburg
“Foundation Hamburg Maritim“ takes delivery of a traditional harbour-tug from FAIRPLAY-Towage Today the “Foundation Hamburg Maritim“ took delivery of the 47-year-old Hamburg harbour tug “FAIRPLAY VIII” from its previous owner FAIRPLAY-Towage. Just after the 600 BHP tug was moored at its new berth at Sandtorhafen, Hamburg’s new museum-port, Joerg Mainzer, Managing Director of FAIRPLAY-Towage, handed one of the original brass-keys of the tug’s wheelhouse as well as the ship’s papers to Reinhard Wolf, Chairman of the Board of the “Foundation Hamburg Maritim”. The tug, built in 1962 on the Theodor-Buschmann-Yard which belongs to the Fairplay-Group since 1957, will fortwith be moored at Sandtorhafen and will be open for visitors. The Foundation also plans to operate the tug for tours with special guests for example on the famous annual “Hamburg Harbour Birthday”. The Foundation is presently looking for volunteers who shall forthwith be responsible for maintenance and operations. During the hand-over ceremony, Joerg Mainzer gave a short resume of the long history of this tug which sailed the entire 47 years under Fairplay’s flag. „We are happy, that a traditonal harbour tug will not go the breakers but will fortwith serve as information source for tourists and interested groups on the tasks of harbour tugs in those days which are still very much the same in today’s modern times.“ The ocean-going tug „FAIRPLAY VIII“ was built 1962 at the Theodor-Buschmann-Yard in Hamburg for FAIRPLAY-Towage. Until 2002 the ship was predominantly operated in the Port of Hamburg, occassionally also as a salvage tug. Towards the end of the 90ties, Fairplay changed its colour regime from the then traditional white/brown/black livree to today’s more modern blue/white Fairplay house-colours. The tug just passed its intermediate survey at its building yard Theodor-Buschmann where the new owner changed the colours back to the original style. When the ever growing size of ocean-going ships calling the Port of Hamburg outgrew the 12 tons bollard-pull of „FAIRPLAY VIII“, FAIRPLAY-Towage re-positioned the tug to the German Baltic Port of Wismar. In Wismar she was active until mid May 2009. Amongst the guests during the hand-over ceremony, many tugboat enthusiasts as well as active and retired Fairplay-crews and office staff were spotted. Especially the FAIRPLAY-retirees were warmly welcome by Reinhard Wolf: „The preservation of the maritime heritage of our city can only succeed with the help of people who have a close affinity to our port and to shipping in general. We herewith invite you whole heartedly to assist us in establishing the future presentation of this wonderful tugboat. Like for the other traditonal ships of the „Foundation Hamburg Maritim“ such as the pilot-schooner „No. 5 ELBE”, the “SCHAARHÖRN”, the “JOHANNA” or the cargoship “BLEICHEN”, we intend to establish an own operational unit made-up by volunteers, which will ensure proper maintenance and the operational reliability of the tug”. The „Foundation Hamburg Maritim“ was established in 2002 by the „Hamburg Landesbank“ (today HSH Nordbank) on the initiative of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce with the aim to preserve Hamburg’s maritime heritage. Next to historic ships and the „Harbour-Museum“, the Foundation is operating the Sandtorhafen, a revived port basin in Hamburg’s thriving new city quarters “HafenCity”. | Fairplay Towage sells deepsea-tug „FAIRPLAY XIV“
Hamburg based FAIRPLAY Towage has sold its deepsea-tug „FAIRPLAY XIV“ to Greece. The fourth tug of this name in Fairplay’s 102 years of history was built 1970 as „Seetrans 1“ at Schichau-Werft, Bremerhaven. 1975 the tug was sold to Raga Schiffahrts GmbH, Hamburg trading under her new name „Raga 1“. As from 1978 the tug was laid-up in Cuxhaven before she was taken over by the Hamburg towage company Petersen & Alpers which operated her under the name „Hanseatic“. In 1987 Fairplay Towage bought the tug from Petersen & Alpers and renamed her „Fairplay XIV“. Since these days this very reliable tug is sailing in wordwide trade under the Fairplay flag together with her sister „Fairplay IX“. In the course of her Fairplay life, she circled the globe various times. The voyages performed since September 2006 alone are typical examples: in September 2006 the tug left San Francisco with a tandem-tow of two pontoons heading for Las Raffan, UAE. From there she ballasted to Nantong/China. Mid January 2007 „Fairplay XIV“ left the Nantong/Shanghai range with a pontoon laden with various inland river hulls for Rotterdam where she arrived end May - 4 months later. Thereafter she sailed for the Romanian Blacksea-port Tulcea to pick-up a newbuilding-hull for Stavanger/Norway. Her next job was to tow an empty pontoon from Stavanger to Escravos/Nigeria where the pontoon is used in a local offshore project. End December 2007 this pontoon will be picked up again to Europe by the sister-tug „Fairplay IX“. After having delivered the pontoon in Nigeria the Fairplay XIV demobilisied to Piraeus where she arrived on 29th September. The hand-over to her new owners took place on 2nd November. Due to her very economical fuel consumption and her sizeable bunker-tanks which in combination enabled her for uninterupted towages of up to 90-100 days and due to the tug’s very high reliability, „Fairplay XIV“ achieved a very high utilization in her years under Fairplay-flag. On 2nd November the tug was delivered to her new owners „Diavlos Maritime“. She will fortwith sail as „Pantadynamos“ under Panamian flag. Hamburg, 02.11.07 JM/-

The first „Fairplay I“ was built for Carl Tiedemann, Hamburg in 1895 and was scrapped 1953. The second tug with this name was built in 1911 as „Fairplay X“. In 1951 she was completely re-built and started working again as „Fairplay One“. After impressive 75 years of service, she was finally scrapped in Italy in 1986. The third „Fairplay I“, belonging to a series of 6 sister-tugs, was built in 1964 by the Theodor Buschmann Yard, still today a 100% Fairplay subsidiary. In 2000 Fairplay sold her to local Hamburg company which still today operates her in Hamburg under the name „TK1“. The latest Fairplay fleet-addition has little in common with her pre-decessors. She is the strongest tug presently operating in the port of Hamburg, being built by Astilleros Armon in Navia/Spain. With an LOA of 25m and a width of 11,2m “Fairplay I” will primarily serve in the Port of Hamburg. The tug is built according under Bureau Veritas with a class-notation: „BV + Hull + Mach Tug unrestricted service + AUT UMS“. | Fairplay Towage charters offshore-tug
Hamburg-based Fairplay-Towage has bare-boated the offshore-tug „ZEUS“ from the Slovenia tug-owner Adria Tow, Koper. The tug has been re-named „FAIRPLAY-28“. The Voith-watertractor „FAIRPLAY-28“, built by Spanisch shipyard Astilleros Armon in December 2006 is replacing the „Fairplay-27“, which after 1 year’s charter has been redelivered to her owners Bugsier og Berging, Oslo where she will start a terminal contract for Statoil Hammerfest (Snøhvit-Project). „FAIRPLAY-28“ has already been re-painted in the typical blue Fairplay-colours and will shortly start her duties in the Northsea within the Euro-Tug-Pools. Euro-Tugs BV, a Joint Venture between Fairplay Towage und URS Antwerpen, is specialized in Offshore-Services as well as coastal- and worldwide towages (www.euro-tugs.com). The tug will be based in Rotterdam and therefore also be available for harbour work, especially in Europoort. | „Fairplay Towage“ of Hamburg is further strengthening its fleet by chartering the former tug “MICHAEL” of Johannsen & Sohn, Lübeck on a long-term bareboat-charter. The tug has just undergone some preparatory works such as repainting in the Fairplay-colours, reflagging procedures from German to Antigua-Barbuda-flag and renaming her to “FAIRPLAY XII”.
Built 1994 at the J.G. Hitzler Yard in Lauenburg/Elbe she has served the Port of Lübeck ever since. However, the tug has also been a well known guest in the German Baltic ports of Wismar and Rostock, where she frequently was operating under the management of Fairplay’s local office in Rostock. The “FAIRPLAY XII” will forthwith be serving in the Port of Rotterdam as an additional tug to the existing Fairplay-fleet. “Fairplay XII” with an LOA/width of just under 30m/9,50m is a Schottel-driven ASD-tug (SRP 1010) with 41ts bollard pull. Two Deutz engines (SBA6M628) with a power output of 1250kW each produce a free running speed of 13kn. She is equipped with a single drum bow winch with max 400m of 42mm towing wire. In April 2007, Fairplay Towage is expecting its first new Spanish built 60tbp harbour tug. The “Fairplay III” is the 2nd tug out of a series of four units of which two are for URS Antwerp and two for Fairplay. Astilleros Armon will deliver the 4th tug “Fairplay I” in late summer this year. Another pair of sisterships with 80 tons bollard pull – also built by Astilleros Armon - will follow in spring and autumn 2008. FAIRPLAY-Towage, one of Germany’s leading tugboat-providers with a 100 years history is active in harbour-towage-services in the Port of Hamburg, River Elbe ports, German Baltic ports, in the Port of Rotterdam and in the Polish Port of Szczecin. Offshore-support services as well as worldwide towage services are further segments of Fairplay’s core-business. Fairplay is a founding member of the “ARGE Kuestenschutz”, a pool of the three largest German tugboat operators, providing the German Government with 3 ETVs stationed in the Northsea and the Baltic. Last but not least, Fairplay is 50% shareholder in the reputable Belgian towage- and salvage company URS, being active in Antwerp, all River Schelde-ports as well as Zeebrugge and Oostend. With an overall length of 36m and a width of 12,7m Fairplay intends to employe these tugs predominantly in offshore-services as well as harbour tugs in Rotterdam Europort. The hull has the iceclass notation E1 for winter-employment in North-European waters. Two 12-cylinder ABC-engines (Type ABC 12VDZC 4-stroke) with each 2652 kW at 1000 rpm are delivering their power via two MC-HD-clutches to two fixed propeller Schottel propulsion units (propeller diameter 2,8m) and will thus produce a bollard pull of minimum 80ts at a free running speed of 14 kn. Two 6-cylinder-diesel generators with an output of each 160kW are producing the electrical energy for the ship and another 6-cylinder diesel with 600kW output is driving the Schottel bowtrhuster (Type STT 110LK) as well as the Kvaerner FiFi-1 installation. A Brusselles waterfall winch is installed on the aft-deck. The upper drum accomodates 1200m wire of 54mm Ø and produces a breakload of 2000kN. The lower drum has a breakload of 2500 kN and a wire capacity of 900m 54mm Ø tow-wire. Additonally the tug is equipped with a combined towing-/anchor-winch on the foredeck with again a 54mm Ø wire of 400m and a breakload of 2000kN. This forewinch will exclusively be used for harbour assistances. All winches can be controlled from the wheelhouse as well as from portable joystick-controls. With 2 Brusselles tugger winches, Karmoy Sharkjaws (Triplex AS H 200), Karmoy Towing Pins (Triplex AS S 200), a deckcrane with a SWL of 2 ts at 12m outlay, a wooden deck on both sides of the aftdeck as well as an open stern with a sternroller of 2,5m width, the tug has anchorhandling capabilities to work with and at oilrigs, for example in the Northsea. Like with the previously ordered harbour tugs this latest order gets an extensive fendering around the entire ship to protect the hull especially when working in „Push & Pull-Mode“. The air-conditioned accomodation have 8 cabins with bunks for max. 12 persons. An adequately designed mess- and dayroom are completing the crew-area. The navigational- and communication equipment in the wheelhouse corresponds to the presently available technical standards, such as GMDSS, gyro-compass, autopilot, electronic seachart, AIS and two radars. The tugs are built according to the guidelines of the German SBG under German Lloyd class with the classification: ? GL 100 A5 M E1 Tug / ? GL MC E1 Aut FF1. Delivery of these tugs is planned for February and October 2008. Fairplay Towage which celebrated its 100th anniversay in 2005, today operates a fleet comprising of harbour and offshore tugs, stationed in Hamburg, Rotterdam and the German Baltic. Two deepsea tugs are employed in worldwide trade. Further Fairplay operates through its subsidiary BBB Schlepp- und Hafendienst in Rostock a fleet of work-pontoons. With the 50% participation in URS Antwerp and the take-over of the Polish “Project Zegluga”, based in Szczecin, both in 2004, the activity-portfolio of Fairplay Towage has been steadily enlarged over the last years. | FAIRPLAY TOWAGE achieved ISO 14000:2004 Certification
The Hamburger based Fairplay Towage achieved the certification for an environmental management system in mid August 2006. An intensive months’ long preparation period took place preceeding the certification process by Lloyds’ Register. The certificates cover Fairplay’s operational bases in Hamburg, Wismar, Rostock and Rotterdam, the entire tugboat-fleet as well as the fleet of pontoons stationed in the Baltic. All Fairplay activities such as harbour assistances, coastal- and worldwide towages, offshore services, salvages as well as the two emergency tugs chartered to the German government are included in this environmental ISO-standard. Next to the already existing ISM and ISO 9001:2000 certification, Fairplay is convinced that the ISO 14001:2004 is beyond the normal scope of a tugboat-operator’ quality system and will be beneficial not only for its business. The ISO 14001 is binding Fairplay to work in a strictly defined environmental framework, such as obeying strict engine-exhaust-norms or the use of low-sulphur-bunkers. Fairplay Towage, which celebrated ist centenary in 2005, is operating a fleet of modern tugboats in Hamburg and River Elbe ports, in ports of the German Baltic as well as in Rotterdam. In addition Fairplay offers since many years worldwide towages and offshore-services in the Northsea. Since 2004 Fairplay is a 50% shareholder of the Antwerp-based towage company URS and, with the extension of the EU in 2004, Fairplay established its own office in Szczecin/Poland, offering local harbour-assistances and coastal towages. | „Fairplay Towage“ of Hamburg has come to an agreement with „Buksér og Berging“ of Oslo to bareboat-charter their new terminal handling and offshore escorting tug “BARENTS”. Under the yard-numbers NB58 and NB59, Buksér & Berging has contracted two tugs at the Norwegian shipyard Moen-Slip A/S, located at Kolvereid, West-Norway. The “Barents” (NB-58), to be re-named “FAIRPLAY-27” (72tbp), is scheduled to be delivered on 13th February, 2006.Fairplay Towage will take delivery of the ship in Norway directly from the yard and will transfer her to Rotterdam where she will be employed as harbour-tug in Rotterdam-Europoort as well as an offshore-tug in the Northsea in the Euro-Tugs-Pool, a Joint Venture of Fairplay Towage and URS Antwerp for offshore-services, coastal- and worldwide towages (www.euro-tugs.com).Following her arrival in Rotterdam, “Fairplay-22” (53tbp) will be relocated to Hamburg to strengthen Fairplay’s presence in Germany’s biggest seaport. In turn again “Fairplay V” (28tbp) will be shifted to Rostock whereas the “Fairplay IV”, presently at Rostock, will be re-located to Szczecin to strengthen Fairplay’s Polish set-up.The “Fairplay-27” is a 37m ASD-tug with the class-notation DNV +1A1, EO, Tug, Escort, Ice C, SF, FiFi 1. With a width of 14,0m and a service draft of 4,65m, she is equipped with 2 Deutz SBV9M628 engines producing 2x 2070kW. Two Schottel SRP 1515 CP propulsions and a Schottel bowthruster pumpjet SPJ82RD are producing a bollard pull of 72tons and a speed of 14kn. Scania DI12 62M and a Stamfort HCM534C auxillary engines, each of 260kW, are supplying the required electrical power. The Karmøy self-tensioning winch with 250ts brakeload is accomodating 1200m of 54mm wire. The winch being placed midships behind the accomodation will be used over the stern as well as over the bow. When working as a ‘reverse tractor’ the tow-wire will be lead forward through a tunnel under the accomodation. The ship is further equipped with tugger winches, towing pins, chain/wire stoppers and a stern roller, all of Karmøy.The spacious aft-deck serviced by a Palfinger PK23080MD-deck-crane, gives sufficient space especially for offshore works. Fenders all around the ship’s hulls serve as another safety feature. The two fire fighting monitors according to FiFi1-standard deliver each up to 1400 cbm water or water/foam mixture per hour.FAIRPLAY-Towage, one of Germany’s leading tugboat-providers, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005. Fairplay is active in harbour-towage-services in the Port of Hamburg, River Elbe ports, German Baltic ports, in the Port of Rotterdam and since 2004 also in the Polish Port of Szczecin. In addition offshore-support services as well as worldwide towage services are further segments of the German operator’s core-business. Fairplay is a founding member of the “ARGE Kuestenschutz”, a pool of the three biggest German tugboat operators, providing the German Government with 3 ETVs stationed in the Northsea and the Baltic. Last but not least, Fairplay is 50% shareholder in the reputable Belgian towage- and salvage company URS, being active in Antwerp, all River Schelde-ports as well as Zeebrugge and Oostend.Buksér og Berging, established in 1913 is the leading Norwegian towage-operator with more than 25 tugs ranging upto 95 tonnes BP, stationed along the Norwegian coastline. The fleet is active in ships’ assistances, escort services and offshore towage operations. The sister vessel to “Barents/Fairplay-27” will be delivered in April 2006 and be operated in the Northsea spot market under Norwegian flag. For information about Fairplay Towage and Buksér og Berging please refer to the web-pages under www.fairplay-towage.com and www.bube.no

| The Hamburg based tugowner Fairplay Towage is going to strengthen its fleet by having placed an order for two new tugs with Astilleros Armon in Spain.
With an LOA of 25m and a width of 11,2m these tugs are planned to predominantly serve in the Ports of Hamburg and Rotterdam. Two 8-cylinder ABC-engines (Type ABC 8MDZC 4-stroke) with each 1850KW at 1000 RPM generate the power for two fixed-propeller Schottel SRP1515-propulsion systems, producing a bollard pull of minimum 60 tons and a free-running speed of minimum 12kn. The winch will be operated from a control panel in the wheelhouse or by a portable joystick box. The extensvie fendering around the entire ship is protecting the hull and especially designed for the „Push & Pull-Mode“ Designed for a 3-men-crew the tugs each count a total of 6 bunks. Navigation- and communication equipment corresponds to the presently available technical standards such as GMDSS, gyro-compass, autopilot, electronic seachart, AIS and two radars. The tugs are built according to the guidelines of the German SBG under Bureau Veritas class with the classification: „BV + Hull + Mach Tug unrestricted service + AUT UMS“. Delivery by Astilleros Armon to Fairplay Towage is planned for February and August 2007. URS Antwerp, in which Fairplay holds a 50% participation, has ordered two identical sisters for the Port of Zeebrugge. Fairplay Towage, celebrating its 100th anniversay this year, today operates a fleet comprising of harbour and offshore tugs, stationed in Hamburg, Rotterdam and the German Baltic. Two deepsea tugs are employed in worldwide trade. Further Fairplay operates through its subsidiary BBB Schlepp- und Hafendienst in Rostock a fleet of work-pontoons. | Fairplay Towage has enlarged its Poland based fleet with the purchase of two 770hp push-boats. "Wezyr 1" and "Wezyr 2", until recently owned by the Porta Holding in liquidation, have been taken over in Szczecin in December 2004. Project Zegluga Szczecin, a 100% daugther of Fairplay Towage Hamburg, had both pushers already on charter the entire summer 2004 for the construction of a fingerpier at the Polish Baltic coast. With a draft of only 1,20m both boats are specialized to work in very shallow waters, rivers or lakes or close to beaches.
Fairplay decided to operate the pushers through their Szczecin branch Project Zegluga. (www.projectzegluga.pl). Hamburg, January 2005 JM/-

| The Hamburg based tugboat operator Fairplay Towage has enlarged its harbour activities by taking over 100% shares of "Project Zegluga", a maritime service provider in port of Szczecin (www.projectzegluga.pl).
Established in 1999, Project Zegluga originates from the Porta Holding Group which a.o. once owned the Szczecin Shipyard and which went into liquidation in 2002. Within the Porta Holding, the former Project Zegluga was providing maritime services mainly for the shipyard as well as harbour towage services in the ports of Szczecin, Police and on the Swinoujscie - Szczecin waterway. With Poland's entry into the EU on 1st May, 2004, the new "Project Zegluga" started offering various port-related services such as harbour towage, mooring services as well as services for the waterbuilding industry. In addition Project Zegluga is specialized in receiving and disposing of slops, oils as well as in the removal of environmentally hazardous maritime wastes. In its new set-up the company is operating a fleet of 4 tug-boats comprising of a Voith-Tractor tug, a Combi-Tug with a single screw in a nozzle and an azimuth rudder propeller as well as 2 conventional tugboats. By offering a combination of the Voith-tractor and the Combi-tug, Project Zegluga is able to save money for their clients as according to the Szczecin port rules, ocean-going ships are allowed to employ one tug less if modern azimuth-tugs are used. Furthermore the company is operating a floating crane, various barges including a bunker-barge as well as some smaller crafts such a floating scaffolding pontoon and workboats. | German Government excercises Contract Extension for ETV
The charter for the German ETV "FAIRPLAY-25" has just been extended for another 6 months by the respective department of the German Transport Ministry. The tug, stationed in the City Harbour of Sassnitz (Rugia Island), is operated by the "ARGE Kuestenschutz" (literally "Joint Service for Coastal Protection"). The "FAIRPLAY-25", an ocean-/salvage tug with 5500bhp and 65ts bollard pull being delivered in autumn 2000, with her identical sister "FAIRPLAY-26" on station in Rostock-Warnemuende as well as the state-owned ships, the Government in Berlin has more or less completed its ETV-concept in the German Baltic. In the Northsea the 13.200bhp and 180 ts bollardpull strong "OCEANIC" guarantees the pre-set short mobilization time. In addition the "ARGE Kuestenschutz" provides each one Boarding Team in the Northsea and the Baltic, which - in an emergency - could immediately be transfered by helicopter to a ship in distress. Regular excercises between the ETVs, the Boarding Teams and private ETV-entities and governmental authorities are ensuring a smooth operation in case of a real emergency. The "ARGE Kuestenschutz" has been established in 2001 and is an alliance of the four leading German tugboat-operators Bugsier-, Reederei- und Bergungs-GmbH & Co Hamburg, Fairplay Towage Hamburg, T&S Transport & Service GmbH & Co Bremerhaven as well as URAG Unterweser-Reederei GmbH Bremen. In total these towage companies employ in excess of 600 persons and operate more than 50 tugs ranging from 2000 to 13.200 bhp. 10 of these tugs have firefighting equipment on board. Through URAG’s affiliate Wiking Helicopter Service GmbH, the consortium has access to helicopters. Hamburg, 05.08.2004 JM/-

| Fairplay Towage and Smit International have agreed to operate the towage company “Unie van Redding- en Sleepdienst“ (URS), Antwerpen in a 50/50 partnership. For this purpose Fairplay has established the new company "Fairplay Schelde GmbH"
Smit, which has been 49% shareholder in URS, aquired in July 2003 the majority shares from the then JV-partner BOFORT (a member of the Gevaert Group). Already in summer Smit had announced to look for a partner in URS. For Fairplay this 50/50 Joint Venture means a considerable step in the efforts to further develop Fairplay’s international activities. URS is market-leader in Belgium with tugs in Antwerp, Ghent/Terneuzen, Flushing, Zeebrugge und Oostende. Furthermore URS is active in coastal- and deepsea-towage as well as offshore. URS deploys a fleet of more than 40 tugs from 10-220 tbp. This includes their latest newbuilding "Union Manta", a 220tbp offshore tug which works under a multi-year contract for Heerema in the Caribbean. Under a fleet-renewal program, URS has ordered 4 60tbp harbour tugs in Spain. A detailed URS-overview can be found under www.urs.be Smit and Fairplay have agreed that URS will continue as an independent tug-provider under its own name. | Rostock-based BBB Schlepp- und Hafendienst GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of FAIRPLAY TOWAGE, Hamburg has sold its tugboat "Rosenort".
Built in 1967 at the Magdeburg Shipyard "Edgar André" the 800 bhp strong tug with 11 tbp has been bought by the Croatian shipowner Jadran Tuna. The "Rosenort" is the last tug of the former East-German tugowner VEB Bagger-, Bugsier- und Bergungsreederei Rostock, which was taken over by Fairplay Towage Hamburg after BBB’s bankruptcy in 1993. With a controllable pitch-propeller in a Kort-nozzle this in those times very modern tug was mainly employed in Wismar until end 1999. In 2000 BBB shifted the tug to Stralsund where she was engaged in local harbour assistances, predominantly with Volkswerft Stralsund. The "Rosenort" is already the second ship of the Fairplay-fleet being bought by the Croatians. In March 2001 the long-serving tug "Fairpay XII" went to Croatia and is since employed as so-called "tuna-tug" in the Mediterranean where the buyers are operating sizeable mobile fish-hatcheries. The tugs are towing the underwater-cages and provide a shuttle service between the coastline and the fishfarms with big quantities of imported herring from Denmark, being used as tuna-fodder. The "Rosenort" will be integrated into this service-pattern. BBB respectively Fairplay are not planning a direct replacement of the "Rosenort" due to receeding jobs in the local harbour assistances. Already in December 2000 the Hamburg/Rostock based tugowner bought the "Fairplay XI". Being based in Rostock, this 28 tbp tug is shuttling between Rostock, Wismar, Stralsund and Wolgast depending on work available. Fairplay Towage is member of the ARGE "Küstenschutz", which has just been appointed by the German government to provide two ETVs for the Baltic. In addition to the "Fairplay-26", which is stationed in Rostock-Warnemuende since November 2001, the identical twin "Fairplay-25" will be added in Sassnitz on the island of Ruegen. These two 5500bhp strong offshore- and salvage-tugs each produce a bollard pull of 65 tons and have been chartered to protect the coastline assisting vessels in distress. Both tugs are under the command of the local authorities in Stralsund. Rostock, 30.09.02 JM/-

| The Hamburg tug-owner Fairplay Towage who has received its latest newbuilding FAIRPLAY-26 from the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Zamakona in early January this year will present this newbuilding at the NORSHIP in Oslo from 29th to 30th May.
In a joint presentation with the German SCHOTTEL GmbH, both companies will give their clients the chance to see first hand latest tug-technology. Besides Schottel’s stand on the fairgrounds, Fairplay will have an open ship for the fair-visitors throughout the days of NORSHIP and visitors will also be able to join on small tours in the port of Oslo to experience the unrivalled manoeuvrability of this ASD-tug. With this latest newbuilding, the Hamburg based towage company is finalizing a newbuilding program of now 6 ships which are all stationed in Rotterdam. Like her sister FAIRPLAY-25 the FAIRPLAY-26 will primarily be engaged in off-shore-works. Together with the Spanish-built vessels FAIRPLAY-21, -22, -23 and -24, which are in service in Rotterdam since 1998, these modern tugs form the nucleus of Fairplay’s Rotterdam operation. Although being look-alikes of the previous 21-series, FAIRPLAY-25/26 are technically more advanced with bigger engines, higher bollard-pull and fire-fighting-equipment according to FIFI1 standards. The technical features of the FAIRPLAY-26 a.o. comprise of: Two Schottel pitch-propeller (type SRP1515) in Kort-Nozzles will produce a bollard pull of 66 tons and a forward-speed of 13,5 knots or 11 knots for reverse-cruising. The bowthruster (type STT 110LK) with a thrust of 2,8 tons in combination with the 360´degrees turnable Schottel-propellers will give this tug an uncomparable manoeuverability. Two 9-cylinder main-engines (type DEUTZ SBA 9M628) with 2750 HP each at 1000 rpm and three auxilliary diesel engines (1x MAN D0226MTE with 109 BHP and 2x MAN D2866TE with each 240 BHP) are supplying the required electrical power. The ships have an overall length of 34,85 mtrs, a width of 10,90 mtrs and a draft of 5,20 mtrs. Contrary to the common type of tugs, this latest type is equipped with a bulbous bow and a so-called deadwood. This very special shape of the hull has been developed in extensive tanktests. It guarantees this sterndriven tug an unsurpassed course-stability when working astern as a reverse tractor. In this connection it is worth mentioning that the bridge accomodates a 2nd control-console which enables the captain to overlook the entire working-deck as well as the aft-winch when working astern as a reverse tractor. With each one doubledrum-winch fore and aft (types Ulstein Brattvaag SLm 63-2T) the ships are equipped both for harbour and deepsea-towages. The breakforce of these winches is 125 tons each. Each drum stores one wire of 1500 and of 400m with a dia of 52mm for harbour and deepsea-towages respectively. The winches are operated from winch-consoles on the bridge or on deck. Especially for offshore works, the spacious aft-deck gives sufficient space for equipment and spares or even a 20`container. Fenders all around the ships’ hulls serve as another safety aspect for offshore-jobs. A Palfinger-crane can lift still 1.8 tons at an outreach of 11,4 mtrs. The bunker-capacity of 240 cbm allows an operation-radius of approx. 15 days. The fire fighting equipment is according to FiFi1, which means that the fire-monitors deliver each up to 1350 cbm water or foam per hour either 120m far or 45m high. With total 9 berths, the ship´s crew has comfortable 1- and 2-bed-cabins at their diposal. The entire accomodation is fully air-conditioned. In order to meet the stringent rules for 3-men-harbour-towage-operations, the ships have a number of technical and nautical equipment such as an electronic seachart-system, a GPS, two so-called daylight-radars, echo-sounder, gyro-compass and an autopilot-system. The available communication-systems are according to today`s standards with 3 VHF-units, Inmarsat- and GSM for telephone- and fax-communication. The classification of the newbuildings is according GL+ 100A5 M E Tug + MC E Aut and corresponds with the rules of the Seeberufsgenossenschaft (SeeBG) and the German Lloyd. With the delivery of these two power-packs Fairplay´s fleet of harbour- and sea-going tugs increases to 21 units. Fairplay further owns 12 work-/transport-pontoons with a dwt of each 240 tons and a fully submersible oceangoing-barge of 10.000 tons dwt. The FAIRPLAY-25/-26 belong to a series of 6 tugs with an option of 2 further units built by Spanish yards. The total investment for those ships being built sofar exceeds 60 mio DM (over 28 mio US$), the biggest investment ever in history of this traditional Hamburg tug-owner. In the general environment of fierce international competition and the ever increasing size of cargo-ships which require less tugs than before, this fleet-renewal-programme is a decisive move towards the future of the company. FAIRPLAY- Towage is convinced that only tug-owners with highly efficient and modern equipment will survive. Another important aspect is that FAIRPLAY-Towage is supporting owners and clients in their endeavours to minimize port-costs as less tugs are needed for harbour assistances. FAIRPLAY-Towage has been established in 1905 and is active in worldwide towage- and salvage operations as well as in harbour towages in the port of Hamburg, River Elbe ports, all German Baltic ports and since 1998 also in Rotterdam. | The Hamburger-based FAIRPLAY-Towage has sold its coastal-/ harbour tug FAIRPLAY XII. This single-screw-tug has been built in 1968 at Theodor Bushmann Yard Hamburg, a company belonging to the Fairplay group.
During her life with Fairplay, the FAIRPLAY XII (21t bollard pull / 1275 HP) was primarily engaged in coastal towages in her early years. The most exiting was certainly a trip to Lagos with a barge in tow being loaded with 1000t dynamite. But also Lakers from the Great Lakes to Spain for scrapping and a multitude of voyages in the Mediterranean can be found in her old logbooks. Since the early `90ties she is engaged as harbour tug in the German Baltic port of Rostock. The buyer is the Croatian company Jadran Tuna based in Biograd, which is going to use the tugboat for the towage of underwater-cages with live tunas which are to be transferred from the catching grounds in the Mediterranean Sea to the fishfarms along the Croatian coast. The tug which has been taken over from Fairplay Towage on 8th March, has been renamed CEZAR and will forthwith fly the Croatian flag. The new crew is presently preparing the ship for the passage which will commence ex Rostock/Germany on 13th or 14th March via the Kiel-Canal Hamburg, 11.12.00 JM/-

| The Hamburger-based FAIRPLAY-Towage is further expanding its fleet by purchasing the motor-tug Hillsider. Traditionally FAIRPLAY’S tugs are named after the company followed by a consecutive number. Hillsider will be renamed FAIRPLAY XI following her predecessor, which was a well known coastal tug operating along the European coastline until her sale in 1989.
According to the present schedule Fairplay XI will be engaged in harbour assistances in Rotterdam, Rostock and other German Baltic ports. At Rostock Fairplay-Towage operates the Schottel-tugs FAIRPLAY IV and FAIRPLAY VII as well as the conventional tug FAIRPLAY XII beside several smaller conventional units stationed in the Ports of Stralsund, Wismar and Wolgast. In Rotterdam Fairplay-Towage presently employs 7 tugs of which 4 are of the Fairplay-21-type (4500 BHP, 55 tons bollard pull) plus the latest newbuilding FAIRPLAY 25 (5500 BHP, 67 tons bollard pull). FAIRPLAY XI has been built for Howard Smith Towage in 1988 as Lady Theresa at Cochrane Shipbuilders Ltd. in Goole. Later she was renamed Hillsider after being bought by Cory Towage, Newcastle which today is Wijsmuller Marine Ltd. Now sold to Fairplay-Towage, this tug - a sister of the FAIRPLAY X presently stationed in Rotterdam - with its main dimensions of LOA of 24.31m, breadth 7.30m and a max. draft of 3.50m will be a perfect add-on to the existing fleet of tugs. Two Ruston-Dieselengines, type 6AP 230M generate in total 1508 kW (2050 BHP). With two fixed propellers in Kort Nozzles with Becker Rudders the tug gains a max. speed of 11,5 kn and a bollard pull of approx 30 tons. The double barrelled towing winch of Gemmel & Frow provides towing wires of 75m for harbour assistances and 750m for sea-towages. As announced earlier this year, Fairplay-Towage commissioned its latest newbuilding FAIRPLAY 25 in September this year. The last ship of this newbuilding series is FAIRPLAY 26 with is scheduled to join the fleet end of this year. Both units with an output of each 5500 BHP and 67 tons bollard pull are stationed at Rotterdam. The working area for these two sophisticated tugs which are also equipped for firefighting works according to FIFI1 requirements, will primarily be the off-shore-sectors in the North Sea.
